Explorers

The Amazon Explorer Unit consists of members which are aged 14 – 18. Amazon Explorers are encouraged to lead themselves in deciding the programme and direction of the Unit, with support and guidance from the Leaders. The Explorer Unit tries to be outdoors and adventurous as much as possible and there is wider scope for activities like offshore sailing, mountaineering and expeditions through the District and County. The section also includes the Young Leaders’ Scheme, where young people are able to take on a leadership role in one of the younger sections and take part in the Duke of Edinburgh's award scheme.

Meeting Night

Thursday 8:30 pm – 10:00 pm

The Explorer Unit is often out of the hall so meeting times can vary, often starting earlier but nearly always on Thursdays. Summer meetings are often held at River Hamble Country Park or Mercury Yacht Harbour depending upon the tides. The Explorer Sea Scout Unit (ESSU) is led by the Explorer Scout Leader and at least one Assistant Explorer Scout Leader.
